Lt. Tom Paoletti of the US Navy SEALs is returning to his hometown of Baldwin's Bridge, Massachusetts to recover from a severe head injury. Since the rescue mission, he has been acting strangely, suffers from debilitating headaches, dizzyness, and possible paranoia. No wonder not one believes him when he reports seeing one of the most-wanted international terrorists in Boston's Logan airport, and again in the local hardware store. Kelly Ashton, a doctor, is also returning home to take care of her dying father. The Ashtons and the Paolettis are next-door neighbors, but this is the first time in 16 years that Tom and Kelly have seen each other, after almost becoming lovers as teenagers. Another plot line is the story of Tom's grand-uncle's World War II service told through flashbacks. Tom calls in his SEAL team 16 members as well as the FBI. Alyssa Locke is an Aftican-American, woman, FBI sharpshooter who immediately crosses horns with Sam Starrett, a down-home, chauvinistic, good old boy SEAL.
