After her mother's death, Charlotte Hastings came from New Zealand to Europe, partly to be reunited with her father, partly to have her voice trained for opera. But things didn't quite work out that way, and somehow Charlotte found herself setting off for the Red Sea, joining her father on a deep-sea diving expedition with Nick D'Abernon, a marine biologist, and Monique, their attractive young French assistant.
