Book Description

This is the story of a woman who tried to live without love. Gina, beautiful American girl, goes to the Phillipines to become the bride of a man she scarcely knows. Although a life of luxury lies ahead of her, Gina's desires are not stilled and she cannot resist playing with fire in the shape of the tauntin, handsome Vicente and the strong-bodied native boy with whom there are midnight swims in the pool. This is a strong, powerful novel that sets a woman's problems in strong relief against the exotic, indolent background of the Phillipines and the perfect life led by the wealthy islanders. But with the coming of the Japanese, Gina has to choose whether she will die honourably or survive shamefully and all her instincts cry for survival.
