Savannah von Hopf comes to San Diego to find Ken "Wildcard" Karmody, US Navy SEAL, to help her deliver a quarter of a million dollars to her uncle in Indonesia. In Jakarta, Savannah and Ken are kidnapped, eventually escape on a jungle island and end up on the run from the Russians and local rebel general. The second story is about Savannah's grandmother, Rose, who was a double agent during World War Two, and whose biography is being read by various characters in the book. The other plotline involves a missionary named Molly who is having a love affair with the mysterious Grady, a pilot with no past and a name that, if spoken aloud, carries a death sentence.
