Biography

As an author for Harlequin Romance, Alex Stuart published 18 novels. Her debut novel, The Captain's Table was published in 1953. Her novel, Gay Cavalier got her into trouble with her Mills & Boon editors when she featured a secondary story line featuring a Catholic male and Protestant female who chose to marry. This so-called "mixed marriage" touched nerves in the United Kingdom.

She was also known as Barbara Allen, Fiona Finlay, Robyn Stuart, V.A. Stuart, Vivian Stuart, and William Stuart Long. She was born in 1914, and her real name was Violet Vivian Finlay (though some references cite the name as Vivian Stuart Mann, Mann being the last name of her second husband). She married twice during her lifetime. She passed away in 1986.
