Night was falling on the African plains. For several minutes after her terrifying fall, Regan lay unconscious at the bottom of the pit. Then she groaned as she sat up -- her ankle was throbbing painfully. In dismay she looked up at the patch of sky above her. The vertical walls of earth imprisoned her as surely as iron bars. The far-off cry of a beast made her shiver in fear. Pits like this were used for catching wild animals... It was much later, without warning, that a shadow fell across the opening. Regan cowered against the earthen wall. Who -- or what -- had at last found her?
