Book Template
Dawn, Thanks for fixing the categorization of the the real template:book (as opposed to the article Book Template), but I am sort of confused about removing the Amazon link. It seems that it would be hard to insert this link from scratch each time. Is there a reason you removed it from this template? Have you used the {{subst:book}} syntax with this template? was that the bug you were talking about? Maybe you could make an Amazon link template?--Kay T 12:35, 1 September 2007 (PDT)
- I removed it because the link was dead and it made the capache (human test) go off, which was an extra layer. The amazon link needs to be added each time anyway. The bug was that there was extra data in template after I changed it and I wanted that removed. --DawnBurn 14:22, 1 September 2007 (PDT)
- I don't understand. The link was dead until you filled in the ISBN number. The only thing you needed to fill in was the ISBN number. Now you have to find the info for the link each time and copy and paste it in? Is that what you are thinking? I know that there are an increasing number of books which link to the e-publisher, which I assume is fine, but for books that are sold on Amazon, it seems like a major pain to have to cut and paste all that Amazon code (since it can't be filled in from memory or just from the ISBN info). --Kay T 14:30, 1 September 2007 (PDT)
Same Title Pages
I created Help:Same Title Multiple Authors and edited Book Template to try and recommend the format discussed below and to also encourage others to use the Category and create the pages. Please take a look. --DawnBurn 15:51, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
Welcome
Welcome Dawn! Thanks for adding more romance info to the wiki. Looks like you are doing a good job and are finding your way around. As you learned, sometimes there is more than one book with the same title. In that case we use the author's name as part of the book page name. When you make a link to that page use the real book page name then a pipe {"|"} followed by the real book name so the link looks pretty. Feel free to ask questions. --Kay T 16:30, 29 August 2007 (PDT)
- Thank you Kay T. I didn't realize I had found a book with more than one author for the title. I apologize for editing without checking that first (though I though I did). Thanks. --DawnBurn 16:36, 29 August 2007 (PDT)
- We should probably put that in Help or someplace. No worries, things can always be fixed, or we could always change the way we do things! --Kay T 16:40, 29 August 2007 (PDT)
- Maybe we could put it somewhere on the Book Template? That way people would see it when creating new books and know to look for it and have a standard way of incorporating Author. Either as BookTitle - Author or BookTitle by Author. I personally feel that BookTitle - Author (as was used in the Familiar Stranger - Michele Hauf) is better than the other (as used in Mirage by Monica Burns). --DawnBurn 18:44, 29 August 2007 (PDT)
- Hi Dawn -- I see you've been busy, busy, busy! When I look back that the days when I'd check the "Recent Changes" page and see only my name, it's so cool to see how many new users are adding all sorts of incredible content! To address your comment about duplicate book titles (I recently found yet another Hunter's Moon!), I use the book title - author name syntax because it looks cleaner to my eye. I see that Leigh has been busy creating a "same title" category and aggregating books with the same title on their proper pages. This will allow me to clean up the alpha books listings when I finish my current massive content project!
- Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help...though it looks like you're doing better than great on your own!--Romancewiki 13:12, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
- Thanks. I agree with you on the syntax. Now the question I have is how to change those pages that are not correct and flag for deletion? I will go ahead & create the proper syntax page for Mirage, but that means that there will be two pages for that title that are now defunct. Is there a flag or a category or something we can add to those page for easy flagging for you and/or your trusted moderators? Thanks.--DawnBurn 13:27, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
Luna series
Hi DawnBurn! Not sure if you saw but I replied to your questions on the Talk:Luna page. :) --Amy 11:14, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
- Hi Amy. I did I just hadn't had a chance to respond. Thanks! =) --DawnBurn 12:57, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
Mirage
Looks like you got something straightened out here. RomanceWiki is the one who should know. So we probably need to either have her delete or redirect the Mirage (SP) and Mirage by Monica Burns pages. What does/did the (SP) stand for, I wonder? It is fun to learn about stuff here. We are much more forgiving than that big wiki! But I have learned about so much wiki stuff. and romance stuff. --Kay T 14:55, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
- Sorry, I did not read the above thread. I think we can put category:Pages To Be Deleted on the pages and RomanceWiki will delete them. --Kay T 14:59, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
- Aha! Thank you for the magical category. =) I've messed at tiny bit with the 'big' wiki and have participated in other wikis (with different syntax, ugh). I'm enjoying stuff here and messing around and meeting everyone. -DawnBurn 15:01, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
- No, I am just getting fluent with this MediaWiki syntax, don't even mention that there are others! I have adopted a project over on the big wiki, and suddenly I am creating pages, etc. (which I had never done there) just like around here! Ha!--Kay T 15:10, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
