The Novel With Strong Romantic Elements has long been a part of the romance culture, though there is much debate as to how it should be handled within the genre. Early RITA® awards included a Mainstream category -- possibly an attempt to capture this type of book. Generally, a novel with strong romantic elements does not feature a key romance in the storyline.
