Caroline Courtney
Caroline Courtney is a pen name used by Penelope Jones Halsall - aka Penny Jordan - to sign Regency novels from 1979 to 1983. Penny Halsall entered a competition run by The Romantic Novelists' Association (RNA). Although she didn't win, an agent, who was looking for a new-style Georgette Heyer, contacted the RNA. In 1979 she published Duchess In Disguise, her first novels as Caroline Courtney and wrote 25 Regency Romances. She was advertised as The New Mistress of Regency Romance in the UK, England's New Mistress of Regency Romance in US and The New Georgette Heyer in Germany.

The Name Caroline Courtney in Germany
Stories by Caroline Courtney were very popular in Germany. Apart from the 25 novels listed above 11 more titles were released supposedly written by her:
- From 1985 to 1988 translations of the six titles by Leonora Blythe - 4 of the Coventry Romance imprint and 2 from Fawcett - were published under the name Caroline Courtney. Arlington Books were given as holder of the Copyright © for Carolina.
- In 1988 a translation of Intriguing Lady by Daphne Woodward, #45 of the Second Chance At Love imprint, was published under the name Caroline Courtney.
- From 1987 to 1991 four more translated novels were published under the name Caroline Courtney. The original titles were named Antonia, Beth, Fiona and Morgana. The last book was first published in the US - the German publishers distinguish a translation "aus dem Englischen" - which means the UK - from "aus dem Amerikanischen" - which means the US.
