Fawcett Publications, founded in 1919 and a publishing mostly magazines and comics, acquired Popular Library in 1970 and renamed it Fawcett Books. Fawcett Publications with Fawcett Books was bought by CBS in 1977 and in 1982 Fawcett Books were acquired by Ballantine Books.
