Books by UK publisher Mills & Boon had been sold by importing booksellers for quite a time in Australia before Mills & Boon Australia was established in 1974. The Australian edition kept the ISBN of the UK release but had a different cover and series numbering.

About 1992 the Australian arm adopted the name Harlequin Mills & Boon and its own range of ISBNs. The UK mother company kept the Mills & Boon for its imprints although now called Harlequin Mills & Boon Limited. The Australian company's name is Harlequin Enterprises (Australia).
