After earning a degree in engineering, Laura Hayden spent several years traveling with her husband as military assignments moved their family around the country. While living in Colorado, she first turned her attention to writing novels. Shortly after selling her first novel, she won the Golden Heart for her multi-genre novel, ''A Margin In Time'' (Hayden describes it as a "time travel/ Western/ mystery/ romance novel"). She has written two other paranormal books for Zebra and also has written four romantic suspense novels for Harlequin Intrigue under the name "Laura Kenner."

Hayden has co-authored a "First Daughter" mystery series with former First Daughter Susan Ford and co-wrote The Official Nora Roberts Companion with Denise Little. Laura's latest book is the first in a political suspense series called "America the Beautiful" for Tyndale House about the rise of the first female president, told from the perspective of her best friend. America the Beautifulcame out in May 2008 and the second book, Red, White & Blue will be released March 2009.

Well-known for her service to the romance community, Hayden served on the Board of Directors for the Romance Writers of America in 2000-2001 and produces RWA's annual RITA Awards Ceremony. In addition, she is also the former president of Pikes Peak Writers, a conference director many times over for the Pikes Peak Writers Conference and is also a member of the Mystery Writers of America.

In 2008, Laura returned to her home state of Alabama where, besides writing, she owns Author, Author!, [[1]] an online bookstore.
