Set in Depression-era Missouri, this book picks up ten years after The Edge of Town when April Asbury, a young nurse, arrives in town to work for the local doctor. When her car breaks down she meets Joe Jones, a ladies man who offers to help her. There is lots of intrigue and complicated relationships as the author describes the small town life.
