Book Description
Set in Jazz-Age Missouri, this book tells the tale of the small town of Fertile, Missouri. There are three main plot lines. The first thread is about Julie Jones, a sweet farm girl who left school at age fifteen when her mother fell sick to take care of the house and her father, and raise her five younger brothers and sisters. When Evan Johnson, a war veteran hopes that Julie can love him, even though he is the son of the town's notoriously mean and obnoxious drunk. Another thread involves a serial rapist who is still at large and targets Julie.
