Category Descriptions (Note: Listing of publishers is meant as example only and is not all-inclusive.) Futuristic/Fantasy/Paranormal Romance (new category) Novels in which the element of either the future, a fantasy world or paranormal happenings figure prominently in the story. These may be for either single title or category line novels. Examples of such works eligible for this category are those written by Jude Deveraux, Jayne Ann Krentz, Constance O'Day-Flannery or June Lund Shiplett. Historical Series Romance Novels with historical settings that are published as part of a series line, such as those published by Avon Ribbon Romances, Zebra Heartfire Romances, Harlequin Historicals and Charter Diamond. Long Contemporary Romance Novels over 70,000 words in length. These are longer sensuous romances, such as those published by Harlequin Super Romance, Harlequin American, Silhouette Special Edition and Silhouette Intimate Moments. Regency Romance Novels with primary settings during the Regency period in England, such as those published by Harlequin, Walker, Signet, NAL, Zebra, Fawcett, Warner, and Avon. Regencies make take place in countries other than England, such as the American Regencies, but the mannerisms and customs must still be Regency in flavor. Romantic Suspense Novels in which suspense plays an important part in the plot and in the romance, such as those published by Harlequin Intrigue, some Silhouette Intimate Moments, Hearts in Peril, as well as single title release books such as those written by Victoria Holt, Phyllis Whitney, etc. Short Contemporary Series Romance Novels under 70,000 words in length. These are short, sensuous romances, such as those published by Silhouette Desire, Harlequin Presents, Harlequin Temptation, and Bantam Loveswept. Single Title Contemporary Romance Contemporary novels which are non-category in nature, which do not qualify for any other category, and which are released as individual titles and not as part of a numbered line, such as those books released as individual titles from NAL, Dell, Worldwide, Berkley/Jove, Bantam, Pocket, Warner and Walker. Single Title Release Historical Romance Historical novels or family sagas which may or may not have one primary romance. These novels are non-series in nature, should not qualify for any other category, and which are released as individual titles and not as part of a series line. These novels would be intended for publishers such as Avon, Pocket, Berkley/Jove, Leisure, NAL, Warner, and Zebra. Traditional Romance Romances in which the protagonists do not usually make love unless they are married to each other and in which love scenes are not graphically described, such as those published by Harlequin Romance and Silhouette Romance. Young Adult Romance Novels geared to teen-age readers which may or may not be typical romances, and entries may be such as those published by NAL Vista, Scholastic, Silhouette First Love, Crosswinds, Archway Books, and Bantam Sweet Dreams, Seniors and Couples.
