Breakout

Though there is no one definition of a "breakout" book or author, conventional wisdom says that breakout status is achieved when sales for a new book skyrocket when compared to previous works. Breaking out of the pack turns Mid-list authors into bestsellers. An excellent example of an author achieving breakout status is Carly Phillips who became a romance superstar when her book The Bachelor was chosen by Kelly Ripa for her "Reading With Ripa" bookclub.
