Books in which American Reconstruction (post-Civil War, 1865-1877 or 1865-1899) is part of the plot.

During Reconstruction the United States focused on abolishing slavery, dismantling the Confederacy, and reconstructing areas damaged by the Civil War. The Compromise of 1877 officially ended Reconstruction with the withdrawal of federal troops from the South. However, the withdrawal sparked new turmoil over land and the status of freed slaves; many historians consider the Great Exodus of 1879 and the Southern strife of the 1880s and 1890s to be part of the Reconstruction period.
