Should this category & Category:Erotic Romance be merged? I don't understand why we need both. --DawnBurn 14:40, 4 September 2007 (PDT)
- Let's see, what did I think I already said? To me these seem to be slightly different, e.g., something could be erotic and not be an erotic romance. I believe that some people do have strong feeling about there being a difference, e.g., Ellora's Cave Romantica. (I do remember saying all this someplace). We also have another category called Erotic Historical Romance (although the page is yet to be created). Maybe what we need in a disamb page! The other issue is recategorizing the articles to be in the other category (I don't think there is an automatic way of "merging" these). So, all I can think of right now.--Kay T 17:12, 7 September 2007 (PDT)
- So I guess my point is that Erotica is different in my mind from Erotic Romance, so they probably should not be merged.--Kay T 17:14, 7 September 2007 (PDT)
- I can see that point. I know a lot people have different definitions for Erotic versus Erotica Romance versus Romantica. But that is the thing. Each person has their own line of where the categories begin/end. I might think that Menage by Emma Holly is an Erotic Romance. I know others who would say it is specifically Erotica, not Erotic Romance. And yet another person might do Romantica. Additionally, I think that trying to maintain all the variations on the different categories would be hard. People would move one book from a category to another, or list under all or none because they can't figure out which is 'correct'. To make things cleaner for organization purposes I think it would be easier/easiest to declare a specific Category to catch them all and note that while the other sub-categories are out there or alternate categories that all were classified under this due to 'fuzzy' definition.
- And yes, if we merge them then we will have to manually change the categories on all the pages to the chosen category unless RomanceWiki has a bot made that can do it. --DawnBurn 17:21, 7 September 2007 (PDT)
- and on further consideration, I think my second point contradicts my first point that "erotic" is an adjective and "erotic romance" is a noun, but then "erotica" is a noun too!. Maybe invite some others to comment (if they don't pipe up soon), and let's see. I think that the AWB on the wiki might be taught to work here; I have downloaded it and not yet tried it. We have lots of clean up tasks that might be easier with a bot. So let's take a wait and see for this weekend.--Kay T 17:50, 7 September 2007 (PDT)
