Biography
Kay David is a Texan, born and bred, but she's lived all over the world, from the Middle East to South America. These exotic locations fuel her imagination and give a unique twist to the Harlequin Superromance novels she loves to write.
Kay's husband's prior job required that they move constantly. It was very hard for her, especially their time spent in Argentina. "We were in a very remote area—in fact, we were the only Americans in town. I had to leave my family, my home, my friends…everything that meant anything to me. I gave it all up, not knowing when or how we'd be able to return.
"After two years, we both had enough and came back. I'll never forget driving to the airport to fly home that day. Our taxi passed a guy standing by a bus stop holding a chicken under one arm. My husband and I looked at him, then we both started laughing hysterically. We couldn't wait to get back to Texas."
Other adventures have included time in the United Arab Emirates and a stint in Bolivia, with side trips to Brazil and Peru. Kay especially enjoyed the United Arab Emirates—in particular, the gold markets—small bazaars filled with tiny shops, full of 22- or 24-karat gold from the ceiling to the floor!
Peru was equally intriguing. Getting to Machu Picchu involved a flight to La Paz, then another to Cuzco, a four-hour train ride to Aguas Calientes, and finally a thirty-minute bus ride up a winding mountain on a one-way road.
The ruins were worth the effort, however. "Machu Picchu is a mystical place. I've never been anywhere where the energy is so strong. You can almost taste it. You know you've reached somewhere special when you climb up those ruins. The moment will stay with me forever."
As a child, Kay lived on the Texas Gulf Coast. She was the editor of her high school newspaper for three years running, worked on the yearbook for three years, and wrote a weekly column for the local newspaper. She holds three degrees from the University of Houston: a B.A. in English literature, an M.A. in behavioral sciences, and a final B.A. in the management of information sciences.
After graduating, Kay spent time working at NASA, building homes, and in the oil industry. She developed her own business, a diamond brokerage firm, and ran that for many years. While it was all interesting, Kay knew one day she wanted to get back to her true love, writing.
"I love writing Superromance books," she says. "Not that I'm prejudiced or anything, but I think they represent the very best of all category romance. Because of their longer length, they have a depth and emotional richness not available to the other lines. The stories always push the envelope, as well. You don't know what you'll get when you pick up a Superromance novel, but you do know it'll be a story that you won't be able to put down until you reach the end."
Kay and her husband, Pieter, along with their globe-trotting kitty, Leroy, currently split their time between homes on the Gulf Coast and the Texas Hill Country. You can visit her Web site at www.kay-david.com or e-mail her at kaydavid@kay-david.com.
