Sister Adelaide Peters was delighted to be chosen, under the new exchange scheme, as the British representative to work in an Amsterdam hospital for a year. It would be most interesting, it was an honour, of course, and there would be plenty of challenge. Needless to say, there were problems, but Adelaide was used to those and soon took them in her stride. But the biggest challenge came from the distinguished doctor, Coenraad van Essen.
