Description
Widow, Laura Gardeyne is worried that her late husband's brother is plotting to kill her beloved three-year-old son, Harry. Stephen Ball has known Laura since childhood and he had once hoped to marry her. Now that she is a widow, he comes to Caldfort House on the pretense of talking politics with her father in-law, but actually hoping to speak to Laura. When he sees her, Stephen realizes that she's in a state of near-panic about Harry, and he gets her to tell him the whole story.
