Book Description

Jason J. Walker is a hard-working director of a private college. A decent, responsible company man willing to do anything to help his school out, Jason suddenly has an infatuation with a new student, Mei-Fang. She is flirtatious, and has a sweet voice and an innocent smile. Jason tries to be friendly, but—in his mind—she goes one step further and seduces him. Though he initially resists her moves, he soon gives in to temptation. He is willing to do anything for her, but at the same time, can’t stop sleeping with her even though he knows it is unethical. Everything seems perfect until Jason inadvertently finds out about Mei-Fang’s hidden secret. What will this normally reasonable-minded man do to retaliate? Will he ignore his discovery and continue frequenting her bedroom? Or will he stoop to doing something illegal to get his revenge?

Excerpt

I looked through the stack of resumes on my desk. Not many good ones caught my eye.

Whoa. What was this? A resume from Kevin Burns—our current Career Prep program teacher? Yup. Same e-mail address. Same phone number. He even had our school listed under his “Work Experience”—and his cover letter stating he could start anytime, even this week. Well, lesson learnt, Jason Walker. A good way to test the loyalty of your staff: post an ad online and see which members of your current team would jump at the chance to desert you.

Finally, there was one good candidate out of the stack of a couple dozen.

The phone rang and rang and rang, with no answer. I sighed, throwing the phone down.

You’ve got to be kidding me, I thought. Why on earth would you apply for a job and not have a voicemail on if you’re not going to pick up the damn phone?

Geez. The light knock on the door startled me.

I looked up from the paperwork and—what a pleasant surprise. Mei-Fang, the newbie.

“Come in,” I said, motioning for her to enter my office.

She came in, smiling at me.

“I bring you some chocolate.” She put some goodies on my desk and retreated to the door. “See you tomorrow.”

“Wait,” I said. “Thank you.”

She stopped and looked into my eyes.

I smiled back. “Could you close the door?”

Mei-Fang nodded and pushed the door gently until it shut completely. She leaned against the wooden door, her face beaming.

“So, tell me, was your first day okay?” I asked. It was a harmless and genuine question, just to make sure she was appeased with our school.

She stroked her hair playfully with her right hand and nodded.

I tried to ignore her cute mannerisms, because I really wanted to ensure she was comfortable with her surroundings. After all, I could fantasize after work, but now, in my office, wasn’t the time for any of that nonsense. Again, it was about image, first and foremost.

“I like you,” was the only thing out of her mouth. The way she was standing against that door, it seemed like she was trying to flaunt her breasts at me. Oh boy.

Yes, I had heard that kind of comment before, on numerous occasions, and ninety-nine percent of the time, students said that to praise the job you were doing as their instructor. Nothing more.

This time, I thought my face must have turned red. I didn’t look her in the eye; instead, I pretended to look at the top resume on the desk, but I was just staring at its white space, hoping the awkwardness would vanish.

“Oh, thanks. I look forward to teaching you again, uh. Uh…”

Rats. I had forgotten her name. Well, not forgotten, but rather, become so rattled that it just slipped my tongue. Worse, my heart was pounding very hard. I didn’t dare look up. And ironically, I was the director; she was not. I should have been the calm one, and she—the newbie—seemed to be calling the shots with her flirting.

“Ahem,” I cleared my throat, as I realized she didn’t have anything else to say, and the silence was making me even more uncomfortable. Perhaps I should have just let her walk out when she’d wanted to.

“So, it’s after five. What are you still doing here?” I interjected, trying to put an end to it all and send her on her way.

“Use computer. Faster here than home,” came her sweet voice. Short yet sweet. Ah, her voice sounded like a nice melody.

“Okay, well, see you tomorrow, alright?” I said, putting some closure to this uneasy confabulation, again not bothering to make eye contact or even look up.

“Good night, my dear teacher Jason.”

I finally looked up, a bit relieved that she was on her way out. I caught one final glimpse of that smile as she left, still hooked by her appearance.

Was it her smile? Her innocent face?

Anyway, that was over with. I had to get through more work, so I didn’t have much time to fantasize now. What time was it? Whoa. Only five-eleven? She was in the office for only two minutes? Felt more like two hours to me.

On the way home, I couldn’t help but think about Mei-Fang. Was it just me, or had she flirted with me? Her friendliness in class was nothing out of the ordinary. Chocolate, not too outrageous. But I certainly wasn’t imagining her stroking her hair or exhibiting her sexuality against the door. Nonetheless, I had to be careful not to be caught in situations like what had just happened in my office. Thankfully, none of the teachers here were keen go-getters; they were all gone by three-ten, daily without fail, mere minutes after class ended at three. But what if Burns or Tammy or another one of them came in? Gossip city in the staff room, to be sure. And what if Maria—who left at five-thirty every day—had come in to hand me more paperwork? Alright, Jason Walker, no more requests to close the door.

Should I recuse myself? Should I just not teach this class? I mean, if I was aroused by her appearance alone, I shouldn’t be in that classroom with her. Just like a judge wouldn’t be presiding in a court case involving her own son. Conflict of interest.

If I couldn’t handle two minutes alone with her in my office, how would I be able to deal with a whole two weeks—at the very minimum—in class with her, with other sets of eyes watching my every move?
