The Perfect Kiss by Anne Gracie

About the Book

Dominic Wolfe is engaged to marry impoverished Melly Pettifer, a woman he doesn't know nor love. Melly, terrified, engages the aid of her good friend Grace Merridew, hoping Grace will find a way out of this unwanted engagement. And Grace does -- by falling for Dominic. Even though he's promised to Melly -- and there doesn't seem to a be a way out of this situation -- Grace discovers that she's worthy of love while Dominic finds the man he really is behind his cold exterior.

Readers had difficulty with the plotline in the final book of Gracie's "Merridew sisters" series due to the fact that Grace engages in more than a few kisses (and further) with her friend's betrothed. Grace also suffers from "perfect heroine" syndrome -- a problem where romance novel heroines are instantly beloved by servants, know how to do things that servants normally do, and exhibit medical expertise beyond their century.
