Biography

Betty Neels was a trained Army nurse in the United Kingdom, and used her experiences in her novels. She lived briefly in the Netherlands with her Dutch husband before returned to Dorset. Though her husband was Dutch and she frequently featured Dutch surgeons as heroes, she maintained that he was not her inspiration (he was not, by the way, in the medical profession). Neels did not start writing or publishing until after her retirement in 1969 when she was in her 60s. She was born September 15, 1910 and passed away June 7, 2001.

While her work is considered chaste by today's standards, she is frequently cited as a great inspiration for romance authors.

She published a total of 134 novels, starting with her first Sister Peters in Amsterdam in 1969. As an author for Harlequin Romance, Betty Neels published 130 novels.
