Dawn, Thanks for fixing the categorization of the the real [[template:book]] (as opposed to the article [[Book Template]]), but I am sort of confused about removing the Amazon link. It seems that it would be hard to insert this link from scratch each time. Is there a reason you removed it from this template? Have you used the <nowiki>{{subst:book}}</nowiki> syntax with this template? was that the bug you were talking about? Maybe you could make an Amazon link template?--[[User:Kay T|Kay T]] 12:35, 1 September 2007 (PDT)

:I removed it because the link was dead and it made the capache (human test) go off, which was an extra layer.  The amazon link needs to be added each time anyway. The bug was that there was extra data in template after I changed it and I wanted that removed.  --[[User:DawnBurn|DawnBurn]] 14:22, 1 September 2007 (PDT)

Hi Kay! That was me, making a guess at how to succinctly add a same-title, multiple-authors book. It seemed as if it would make the entry too long to include all of the authors, which is why I included the publisher instead. I hope that didn't mess up anything! --[[Lisa Plumley | Lisa]] :)

::I don't understand. The link was dead until you filled in the ISBN number. The only thing you needed to fill in was the ISBN number. Now you have to find the info for the link each time and copy and paste it in? Is that what you are thinking? I know that there are an increasing number of books which link to the e-publisher, which I assume is fine, but for books that are sold on Amazon, it seems like a major pain to have to cut and paste all that Amazon code (since it can't be filled in from memory or just from the ISBN info). --[[User:Kay T|Kay T]] 14:30, 1 September 2007 (PDT)
+
:Lisa, I think you made a good guess for that. See discussion on the [[Help talk: Style Manual]] about this (discussion going on at the same time you were guessing). I was just commenting that a line at the beginning of all of these types of pages might be a good idea. --[[User:Kay T|Kay T]] 10:00, 19 September 2007 (PDT) P.S. When signing on talk pages it is easy to use the signature button (right after the red-no wiki button above the edit screen). this puts in a link to your user page and the date and time.

:::I added back the Amazon link -- while it does set of the evil Captcha (which much as I hate it, is working), I think most users are getting that they're supposed to properly fill in the ISBN and book title. But I'm going to add instructions to make that clear. Ideally, we would have links to multiple bookstores, but until there's a module that makes that feature easy-as-pie, we'll stick with just the Amazon. It looks like I won't be around much today either , book is done, review (totally biased!) is half-written, and the husband is planning an afternoon out of the house.--[[User:Romancewiki|Romancewiki]] 09:50, 2 September 2007 (PDT)

:Dawn, thanks so much for getting this page started! It's been on my to-do list forever, but, as you can see, there's always something ahead of actual progress. You clearly have an organized mind (mine, lately, has resembled a jigsaw puzzle with key pieces lost forever) and I soooo appreciate you take the time to write "help" for the various tricky aspects of the wiki. I saw your conversation with KayT about using various wiki formats. ::Dawn, you still have a redirect on the talk page for that sandbox. Just in case you wanted to chat there about the image. Maybe that is a template that calls the standard thumb size on wiki? --[[User:Kay T|Kay T]] 16:44, 16 September 2007 (PDT)
Welcome Dawn! Thanks for adding more romance info to the wiki. Looks like you are doing a good job and are finding your way around. As you learned, sometimes there is more than one book with the same title. In that case we use the author's name as part of the book page name. When you make a link to that page use the real book page name then a pipe {"|"} followed by the real book name so the link looks pretty. Feel free to ask questions. --[[User:Kay T|Kay T]] 16:30, 29 August 2007 (PDT)

:::Maybe we could put it somewhere on the [[Book Template]]?  That way people would see it when creating new books and know to look for it and have a standard way of incorporating Author.  Either as BookTitle - Author or BookTitle by Author.  I personally feel that BookTitle - Author (as was used in the [[Familiar Stranger - Michele Hauf]]) is better than the other (as used in [[Mirage by Monica Burns]]).  --[[User:DawnBurn|DawnBurn]] 18:44, 29 August 2007 (PDT)

::::Hi Dawn -- I see you've been busy, busy, busy! When I look back that the days when I'd check the "Recent Changes" page and see only my name, it's so cool to see how many new users are adding all sorts of incredible content! To address your comment about duplicate book titles (I recently found yet another ''Hunter's Moon''!), I use the book title - author name syntax because it looks cleaner to my eye. I see that Leigh has been busy creating a "same title" category and aggregating books with the same title on their proper pages. This will allow me to clean up the alpha books listings when I finish my current massive content project!

Looks like you got something straightened out here. RomanceWiki is the one who should know. So we probably need to either have her delete or redirect the [[Mirage (SP)]] and [[Mirage by Monica Burns]] pages. What does/did the (SP) stand for, I wonder? It is fun to learn about stuff here. We are much more forgiving than that big wiki! But I have learned about so much wiki stuff. and romance stuff. --[[User:Kay T|Kay T]] 14:55, 31 August 2007 (PDT)
