Description
Widow, Laura Gardeyne is worried that her late husband's brother is plotting to kill her beloved three-year-old son, Harry. Stephen Ball has known Laura since childhood and he had once hoped to marry her. Now that she is a widow, he comes to Caldfort House on the pretense of talking politics with her father in-law, but actually hoping to speak to Laura. When he sees her, Stephen realizes that she's in a state of near-panic about Harry, and he gets her to tell him the whole story. Stephen believes her and together they plan to protect Harry and to solve several other mysteries surrounding the Caldfort family.
