The publication of the Silhouette Desire titles in the United Kingdom was started in January 1983 by Hodder & Stoughton, seven month after the start of the North American Edition. At that time Silhouette still was a division of Simon & Schuster. The UK titles had the same covers and numbering as the US Edition but their publisher's ISBN: UK-Edition and US-Edition
Harlequin Enterprises Limited bought Silhouette in 1984 and from January 1985 on the UK-Edition was published by Harlequin's UK-based company Mills & Boon. The UK titles still had the same covers and numbering as the North American Edition but the ISBN Prefix of Harlequin, whereas the North American edition still had the ISBN Prefix of Simon & Schuster: UK-Edition and US-Edition
From July 1985 to June 1986 the UK titles were almost identical to the American Edition, but from July 1986 to April 1995 the UK titles again had a different ISBN with a Harlequin ISBN Prefix, but kept the North American covers and series numbering.
This changed in November 1991, when with #645 Mills & Boon discontinued to issue the North American edition on a 1:1 basis. Titles from the Silhouette Romance, Silhouette Yours Truly and Harlequin Love And Laughter imprints were included, sparsely at first and substituting only a few titles of the original edition. Finally most of the series by Mills & Boon had different titles, but they kept the ISBN of their North American release, which makes it rather difficult to distinguish the UK edition.
The last single-title edition of the imprint was released in October 2001, with #1362. After that 3 double-title volumes were published each month, at first called Desire Double and themed. Since March 2007 the imprint is called Desire 2 in 1.
