Suspense leads up to a big event or dramatic moment, with tension being a primary emotion. This tension is usually one source of the conflict in the story.

  • Suspense: romantic elements are only secondary. For list of titles in the sub-genre see category:Suspense.
  • Romantic Suspense: in addition to a romance, romantic suspense books have danger or mystery in them. For list of titles in the sub-genre see category:Romantic Suspense.
  • Inspirational Suspense: novels balance elements of Suspense with Inspirational romance. For list of titles in the sub-genre see category:Inspirational Suspense.
  • Romantic mystery/thriller: in addition to the romance, the storyline will contain elements of danger to the hero or heroine. This is a darker version of the romantic suspense novels. For list of titles in the sub-genre see Category:Mystery/Thriller.
