Love 'em or hate 'em -- secret babies are common plots in romance.

This usually occurs when the hero and heroine have had intimate relations (sex) and then for whatever reason go their separate ways. Years later the hero finds out that the heroine became pregnant from their earlier relationship and he is the father of a child he did not know about. Often the mother thinks that if she does not say anything the father will not figure out that the child is his, or otherwise tries to keep the baby a secret.
